Wiley-X Prescription Lenses

Written by Eyewear Guru, Posted in All About Safety Eyewear

Something to consider before you make your purchase...

Every month a few hundred people search the internet for the term "Wiley X prescription lenses" but, in reality, there is no such thing! Why? Because Wiley X does not make prescription lenses! Yes, this is most certainly true, but perhaps your thinking "I know for a fact that this company makes prescription lenses. I even own a pair of RX safety eyewear made by Wiley-X." Well sure you do. Heck, we actually sell a boat load of Wiley-X prescription safety glasses  every single month. But in reality, it is only the frame that is actually manufactured by Wiley X, NOT the lenses. And this is not unique to Mancine Optical, the same holds true for any lab or vendor from which you might purchase a pair of RX Wiley X glasses.

So perhaps your thinking, "Well this is merely a matter of semantics. What difference does it make who makes the lenses?" And you know what?! We understand where you're coming from. But in all actuality, it makes a big difference. First of all, it is important to understand that even though Wiley-X makes amazing safety frames, and those wearing such frames are protected by some of the best safety eyewear that exists, the prescription lenses held in the product are not actually made by the manufacturer and thus they are not necessarily as indestructible as the actual frame. In fact, chances are slim that the lenses are even remotely as durable as the frame. No, labs like ours must of course purchase your prescription lenses from a third-party vendor and then make that lens to the specifications of your prescription before inserting them into the Wiley-X frame.

So why does this really matter? And what implication does this have on your prescription safety eyewear program? Well for starters, you want to make sure that you are getting your Wiley-x prescription safety eyewear from a vendor that truly understands safety. Getting prescription safety glasses from a local doctor's office or local mall store could potentially result in you getting lenses that aren't actually ANSI-Z87 safety grade lenses - the end result being a nearly indestructible safety frame harboring a highly-susceptible and very breakable lens. This of course completely defeats the purpose of buying prescription safety eyewear. Furthermore, Wiley-X eye glasses feature a very unique and highly curved frame which presents some challenges to labs looking to grind a prescription lens to size. It takes a highly skilled and very experienced lab to properly fit safety lenses into these sleek and stylish frames. Believe us, it ain't easy.

The good news is, we've been doing this for a long time and we were among the first safety eyewear labs in the country to carry the full line of RX-able Wiley frames. As a result, you can take solace that all Wiley-X eyewear purchased through Mancine Optical is properly created, carefully crafted and always using ANSI-grade safety lenses.
